Florida Southern Roofing and Sheetmetal Certified a Green Screened Contractor
Florida Southern Roofing and Sheetmetal receives the distinction thanks to their commitment to the environment and helping homeowners live “greener” lives.
Sarasota (January 1st 2008) – Florida Southern Roofing and Sheetmetal recently was granted the prestigious Green Screened contractor mark. The Green Screened mark is bestowed upon contractors who embrace the challenge of protecting the environment by:
- Educating people about the environmental and savings benefits of having a “green” roof.
- Offering homeowners products and services that can reduce their roof’s energy waste and make their home more energy efficient.
- Taking an active role in preserving the environment through recycling, reusing, and conserving products and supplies both in the office and field.
“I’m honored that each of our technicians and roofing specialists can now wear the Green Screened patch on their uniform. It signifies that we understand our responsibility to the environment and to our community,” Brian Wallace, owner of Florida Southern Roofing and Sheetmetal, said. “The future of this planet is placed squarely upon the shoulders of society. We’re going to take on the role as leaders in making sure Mother Nature is healthy for our children and their children.”
The population in this world continues to expand, so have people’s energy needs. Even though natural resources are dwindling, 30 to 50 percent of the energy in this country still is being wasted! So, more oil and coal is being burned every single day! The constant burning creates additional smog, acid rain, and global warming. One of the biggest wasters of energy in each home is the roof!
Roofs could waste as much as 34 percent of the energy a home produces due to ventilation and insulation problems. This shortens the lifespan of the roof and severely harms the longevity of the home’s furnace and air conditioner. It also affects energy bills. These problems can cause so much damage, yet they’re easily correctable.
All this information points to one obvious fact: Everyone has a responsibility to start reducing their energy needs. It’s not a difficult thing to do. That begins by people becoming more conscious of their home’s energy demands and how their roof affects them.
“It’s one thing for people to recycle bottles, aluminum cans, and newspapers,” Wallace continued. “It all helps, but to make a real difference people need to make improvements to their homes. Ninety percent of homes today have some type of ventilation or insulation problem with their roof and attic. Those issues are causing massive amounts of energy waste, and they’re inflating homeowners’ energy bills.”
As a Green Screened contractor, Florida Southern Roofing has made the commitment to help people live a more environmentally conscious and responsible life. Consequently, they offer EcoSharp Home Evaluations; during an EcoSharp Home Evaluation, a highly trained and certified Green Screened-certified roofing specialist will evaluate every aspect of a roof, including the shingles and gutter system, as well as the attic’s insulation and ventilation. In total, there are more than 50 potential problem areas in and around a roof and attic that will be evaluated.
At the end of the evaluation, a homeowner will receive an assessment that will explain any deficiencies with the roof that might shorten its lifespan or cause other damage to the home, such as permanently damaging the furnace and air conditioner while overinflating energy bills. The assessment will also include ways to eliminate these troubles while lengthening the life and lessening the environmental impact of the roof.
“It’s a time commitment on our part, but we believe the environment and this community are worth it. If we can show people how they can modify their home to be ‘greener,’ it will be well worth it. Future generations will benefit from it,” Wallace said.
